Terrific read and quite a good mystery, too. Affecting.

I enjoyed this book greatly. Loved all the interesting bits about math, coffee, Central America, crime writers and their fans. I was less engaged in the mystery of it, but that works just fine for me.

There is so much I like about this book, but I find the solution to the mystery a real let-down. Still a lot of interesting things to say about math and storytelling and relationships. Not your run-of-the-mill thriller. I feel like Michelle Richmond has a lot of potential.

In this novel of stories told and received, retold and unwound, Ellie's search for the truth about the unsolved murder of Lila, her brilliant mathematician sister, is a lovely study of passion, family, loss, and love.

I enjoyed this one just as much as THE YEAR OF FOG but understand why some readers did not: the stakes are simply not as high. This time out, the story is about a woman who tries to solve her mathematician sister's murder 20 years after the fact - high enough stakes in most worlds - but how do you top the stakes of TYOF, wherein a woman searches desperately to find a young girl, her boyfriend's daughter, who's gone missing while under her care? Short answer: you can't. But you can still write a damn good story.

The first chapter of NO ONE YOU KNOW is very powerful. I have a feeling I will like this one even more than YEAR OF FOG.

Eh. Not as good as her first for me. (And the first one almost lost me because of the huge honking coincidence with which she neatly tied up all the ends.)

And I sort of resented the main character's statement that people who didn't drink coffee were somehow lesser beings.
