Not one of Waugh's best, in my opinion, so I don't understand its enduring popularity. I didn't find any of the characters very sympathetic or interesting. Was that the point?

When Masterpiece Theater ran the Anthony Andrews/Jeremy Irons version I was in high school and I fell in love. Just like Charles Ryder, I fell in love with the whole charming family. I still am.
